2025 Inductee Commencement Speech

Paul and Craig 2025 banquet.

Craig started his Council Rock career in 1979 as an 8th grader playing Junior Varsity. Craig made the varsity team as a freshman, playing backup to Joe Strzelecki. Strzelecki then graduated and Craig became the team’s #1 goalie for the next three years.

Craig, freshman year.

In 1984, Craig’s Senior Year, Council Rock won the SHSHL regular season championship. The SHSHL Playoffs opened up against rival William Tennent. Craig played the first-round playoff game against William Tennent, with what would later be found to be a ruptured appendix. Craig was later taken to the hospital and had his appendix removed.

Two weeks later, Craig was back in goal as the Indians beat Cherry Hill East 3-1 to win the SHSHL Championship and moved on to play in the Flyers Cup for the first time. Rock beat Conestoga and Monsignor Bonner to advance to the Flyers Cup final against Archbishop Ryan at the Haverford Skatium. Unfortunately, Rock lost to Ryan 5-4.

After graduation, Craig went to Division 1 at Miami of Ohio and then transferred to Division 2 at Merrimack College. Craig played 25 games at Merrimack and won 18.

After Craig graduated from college, I asked him to join the Council Rock coaching staff. With Craig as assistant coach, we won the State Championship in 1991 and 1992. Craig coached Council Rock for seven years.

  • From 1981 to 1984, Craig played 66 varsity games, winning 56 of them.
  • Craig was voted 1st Team SHSHL All Star twice, as a junior and senior.
  • Craig was the first Council Rock goalie to play in and win a Flyers Cup game.
  • Craig gave back to Council Rock by devoting his time and expertise as a coach for seven years.

It is my great pleasure to present the first inductee to Council Rock Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. Ladies and Gentlemen, #1 Craig DalFarra!
