2025 Inductee Commencement Speech

Paul and Steve 2025 banquet.

Steve’s first Council Rock season was playing Junior Varsity as an 8th grader in 1983. As a freshman, Steve played second-line Center. That team finished 13-6-1 for second place in the SHSHL. Rock beat Abington, then Bishop Eustace, before losing to Cherry Hill East in quadruple overtime for the SHSHL Championship.

As a sophomore, Steve played first line with Matt Harrington and Ryan Geiges to form one of the most successful offensive lines in SHSHL history. Steve had an outstanding season, leading the Indians in scoring and making the SHSHL All-Star Team.

Junior season, Steve was named team captain and continued to play with Matt and Ryan to be one of the best lines in high school history. Steve had another outstanding year leading the SHSHL in scoring and making the SHSHL All-Star Team. Steve was also named Bucks County Courier Times “Player of the Year.” The team finished with a 16-2 record, tied for 1st place with CB East. The Indians lost to CB East in the SHSHL Championship.

Steve’s senior year would be a memorable one. The team dedicated its season to their teammate Matt Harrington, who had died that summer while swimming in the Neshaminy Creek. Steve changed his jersey from his traditional #16 to #4 to honor his friend and teammate, Matt Harrington. Steve led the team to a 15-0-2 record, good for first place in the SHSHL. Steve recorded over 100 points that season, making him Council Rock’s all-time leading scorer with 264 points. Steve led the SHSHL in scoring for the third time, made the SHSHL All-Star Team for the third time and was also named Bucks County Courier Times “Player of the Year” for a second time. Rock opened up its Flyers Cup run with a 6-3 win over Archbishop Wood. Game two was a 6-2 win over Lower Bucks Champion, Bishop Egan. A semifinal game against Conestoga went to triple overtime before Rock won 3-2. The Flyers Cup Championship was a rematch against Bishop Egan. Rock won 3-2, winning its first-ever Flyers Cup.

After graduation, Steve went to New Hampton Prep school for a post-graduate year.

Steve then went to NCAA Division 3 New Hampshire College for three years. Steve led New Hampshire College in scoring during his sophomore and junior years and was voted Team MVP as a junior.

Steve transferred to Penn State for his senior season. Penn State went 36-1, losing to Ohio University for the National Championship.

After graduation, Steve returned to help me coach the Indians for the next five years.

In Steve’s four years at Council Rock, his team had a combined regular season record of 53-14-5.
